Virtual Tour

“To experience Afton Villa in the spring is A thing of beauty and sheer delight!

The Azalea & Oak Lined Drive

Azaleas are a diverse and colorful genus of flowering shrubs belonging to the Rhododendron family. Known for their vibrant and often fragrant blooms, azaleas come in a wide range of hues, including shades of pink, purple, red, and white. These deciduous or evergreen shrubs are prized in the landscaping for their ability to add a burst of color to gardens, borders, and woodland areas.

The Ruins Garden

The foundation of the old villa remains and the broken walls of brick and stucco outline the shape of the house and will give you an idea of he construction as well as the size. In all, it contained forty rooms. The area within the walls has been excavated and designed as a Ruins Garden where flowers bloom year ’round.

Formal Parterre Garden

The formal garden that abuts the ruin remains a primary focal point of Afton Villa Gardens. Maintained as it orginally stood, the maze of Boxwoods and Azlea adornments is a wonderful way to slow down and contemplate when first arriving on the grounds.

The Music Room

The Music Room is one of the additions Miss Gen added when restoring the gardens. A wonderfully serene spot in the garden just beyond the terraces underneath a wonderful oak, filled with various flowers as well as Muses and Cherub statues!

Daffodil Valley

A highlight of the tour. Flower weave through secluded trails following the stream.

Barrow Family Cemetery

Walled in by tall hedges of ligustrum and planted within by large old japonicas and azaleas, it forms a secret garden of its own.

The POND

One of the important features of the property is the man-made lake that was added by the Trimbles. The ravine that encircles the garden was damned to allow for a water source for maintaining the grounds, as well as to maintain a consistency of water flow through the Daffodil Valley (as well as a wonderful spot to just sit and take in the beauty of the grounds..

Barn

A favorite spot for wedding photography! Wonderfully weathered, the barn serves as a starting point for spring season maintenance.
